About Us
Last updated: 13 June 2026
Furlongform is an independent editorial publication on horseracingbetbasics.com that explains UK horse racing betting at the level it deserves. The publication is written for adult readers in the United Kingdom who are either new to the sport or returning to it after a break, and who want to understand the mechanics of legal British betting without being sold to.
What this site is
Furlongform is a long-form editorial resource. It is not a betting operator. It does not take bets, does not hold customer funds, does not run a tipping service and does not run an affiliate scheme that takes payment for sending readers to particular operators. The content covers fractional and decimal odds, the main British bet types, the way a racecard is read, the regulatory frame set by the UK Gambling Commission, the British Horseracing Authority and the Horserace Betting Levy Board, and the responsible-gambling tools available to British punters.
Who writes the content
Content is produced by the Furlongform editorial team. The team writes, edits and reviews under a shared author profile rather than under individual bylines, and presents a consistent editorial voice across the Site. The editorial role on each guide is to bring together regulatory documents, published statistics and the working practices of British racing into one readable piece. Articles are not authored by undisclosed third parties and are not paid placements.
Editorial methodology
Every Furlongform guide is built from primary sources first and tertiary commentary only where primary sources are not available. The working method used by the editorial team follows the steps set out below.
Sourcing
Regulatory and industry sources are treated as the first reference for any factual claim. These include public statements and registers published by the UK Gambling Commission, decisions and statements published by the British Horseracing Authority, statutory and annual figures published by the Horserace Betting Levy Board and the Betting and Gaming Council, briefings published by the House of Commons Library, evidence submitted to UK Parliament committees, and peer-reviewed academic research where it is relevant. Operator-published material is used only as illustration of a published practice and is not used as the basis for a quantitative claim.
Verification
Numbers, dates and quoted statements are checked against the original source before publication. Where a figure is reproduced from a secondary source that itself cites a primary publication, the primary publication is consulted directly and is the version used in the article. Where two sources disagree, both are reviewed, the more authoritative is followed, and the disagreement is noted in the editing record. Quoted statements are reproduced from the named source with the role and date attached, and are not paraphrased into the speaker’s mouth.
Currency of information
Regulation, levy yields, fixture lists and licensing data move from year to year. Each guide carries an “Updated” date, and dates and figures are reviewed at intervals consistent with how often the underlying source publishes. Where a major change in the legal or regulatory frame occurs, the relevant guide is revised at the earliest reasonable opportunity and the update is recorded.
Independence
The editorial team is independent of operators. Furlongform does not accept payment from gambling operators, payment-service providers, tipsters, course-and-distance services or any third party in return for editorial coverage. Operators are referred to in articles only as illustrations of a regulated marketplace and never as recommendations. There are no operator rankings, no operator scores and no operator review tables on the Site. Where a piece of practice is associated with a particular operator (for example, a near-universal Best Odds Guaranteed promotion), that practice is described in general terms.
What you will not find here
Furlongform does not publish race tips, selections, ratings against specific horses or live odds. Furlongform does not publish operator “best of” lists, sign-up bonus comparisons or affiliate links to gambling sites. Furlongform does not present individual betting outcomes as evidence of skill, and does not encourage chasing losses, increasing stakes after a losing run or any other behaviour associated with gambling harm. The Site is published as educational reading; it is not a substitute for the consumer-protection tools provided by licensed operators and by the resources set out in the responsible-gambling section of each guide.
Corrections and feedback
If you believe a figure, date or statement on Furlongform is incorrect, contact the editorial team through the contact channel published on the Site where available. Genuine corrections are made promptly and the affected article is updated with a revised “Updated” date. Feedback on coverage, requested topics and suggestions for further guides is welcome and is read by the editorial team.
Responsible gambling
Furlongform is published for adults aged 18 and over. The Site is not a substitute for professional advice and is not a betting operator. If you are concerned about your own gambling or the gambling of someone close to you, free and confidential support is available in the United Kingdom from GamCare, BeGambleAware and the national self-exclusion scheme GAMSTOP. Direct links to these services appear in the footer of every Furlongform page.
